Many movies have accurately predicted future technologies and social trends, sometimes decades before they became real. Here are some of the most notable examples:

Movies don’t so much predict the future as extrapolate existing trends and, in some cases, actively shape what gets built; they tend to get interfaces (like tablets, voice assistants, and gesture controls) and especially human behaviors (such as social media culture or emotional attachment to AI) right, because those evolve more predictably than underlying infrastructure, which is constrained by cost, regulation, and technical limits. Their accuracy comes from extending visible technological trajectories, focusing on stable aspects of human psychology, and creating a feedback loop where fiction inspires real-world innovation, while their misses usually stem from underestimating adoption friction, uneven distribution, and complex second-order effects.
